Kentucky State Police say a man who broke into a small-town Kentucky church was holding a crowbar and moving toward a sheriff’s deputy when the officer fatally shot him.
State police spokesman Bernis Napier says the man was ordered multiple times to drop the crowbar but did not comply before being shot.
Police identified the man as 22-year-old Dylan M. Dalzell of Shelbyville.
Authorities have not identified the deputy who opened fire, but say the lawman was placed on paid administrative leave.
Napier says three others were arrested as alleged accomplices serving as lookouts during the break-in at Simpsonville Baptist Church early Friday. Two are charged with burglary and receiving stolen property under $500. The third is charged with burglary.
