
Muldraugh City Council heard several updates as they worked through their regular monthly meeting agenda Monday evening.
During open session, citizen Kenard Cornett expressed concern about the way his abandoned property appeal was handled. After some discussion, Mr. Cornett was advised he had the right to appeal it to the court if he wasn’t satisfied with the committee’s ruling.
Police Chief Dale Harp advised the council a new police officer has been hired and will start his field training on December 16 and will be going to the police academy in Frankfort on February 20, 2017. He will be required to sign a 3 year contract with the city after completing his training at the academy.
Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Lee advised the council there would be a free breakfast with Santa this Saturday (12/17) from 8 a.m. until Noon at the fire house. He also said the fire department has responded to 3 house fires within the past 2 weeks that were caused by malfunctioning furnaces. Lee advised everyone to make sure the filters were clean, fans were working and general maintenance was done before turning on the furnace for the winter. He also advised against using space heaters especially plugged into a power strip or extension cord.
Public Works Supervisor Anthony Lee told the council the agreement with the Kentucky Department of Highways would still be in effect concerning the storage and use of the salt for the roads this winter.
City Clerk Caroline Cline gave a report on the Down Home Holiday Shop that was held Saturday (12/10). There were 28 registered booths with 27 vendors actually setting up. The city had approximately $200 left after expenses to go into the festival fund.
Mayor Joseph Noon presented outgoing Councilman Donnie Basham with a plaque of appreciation for his 16 years and 7 months he has served on the Muldraugh City Council. Mayor Noon also swore in the new council members that will take office on January 1, 2017. Those members are Cory Dresel, Sheila Cowins, Russell Cowins, Curtis Kelley, Robert Mattingly and Jerry Noel.
