
Muldraugh City Council met for their regular monthly meeting Monday (1/09) evening with all council members present.
Police Chief Dale Harp advised the Council Officer Tim Childs will begin training in February in Frankfort. Childs already has received his taser certification. The Department of Criminal Justice Training recently inspected the new hire process and everything has met approval.
Fire Chief Daniel Dresel expressed his appreciation to the Council for allowing him the use of the Jeep Cherokee as a command vehicle. The vehicle needs to be equipped with lights, siren, radio and reflective striping. There is a three on three basketball game fundraiser tentatively scheduled for March 1.
Public Works Supervisor Anthony Lee discussed the need of updating the mobile data collector that is used to read water meters. The current collector was purchased in 2008 and is outdated as of last year. Lee explained the meters will be alright but there are some ERTS that will need to be updated. The system is going to a blue tooth collection device and the preliminary cost is estimated to be $5,000 to $10,000. The update will not be released until March. Lee also discussed three critical areas in the sewer system that needs to be repaired. The areas were found when recent smoke testing of the system was performed. At this time, there is no cost estimate for the projects. The projects are each approximately 200 feet segments. Two of the projects will require connecting into a manhole and the other project will require two new manholes. Lee stressed he would like to start repairing the areas in March.
Councilwoman Sheila Cowins asked about the dozer and the shoving of fill dirt at the City’s property at the corner of South Main and Chenault Street. Lee advised the dozer is repaired and he would begin shoving fill as soon as the ground freezes. Lee also said there may be the opportunity for approximately 400,000 cubic yards of good fill material to be deposited at the site.
In other business the council unanimously voted to appoint Kelly Zola to the Planning and Zoning Commission. The Council also discussed the establishment of a code enforcement board but after some discussion, the Council voted to table the matter until a later date to allow more time and education before adopting the ordinance.
Great American Carnival has offered to set up amusement rides for the annual festival the last weekend in September. The terms would be the same as the previous year. The Council unanimously voted to secure Great American Carnival for the annual festival to be held September 28, 29 and 30.
Councilman Russell Cowins relayed that Muldraugh Community Action Group would donate at least $1,000.00 to the annual festival. Mayor Joseph Noon requested there be more community involvement with the planning and the festival.
The Council approved the business license submitted by Sarah Ledford to do business as Blazing Wok Express, LLC at 702 South Dixie Highway.
