Police are searching for a Hardin County Detention Center inmate who walked away from a work assignment around noon Tuesday at Helping Hand of Hope.
Kenneth William Townsend, 55 of Covington, was last seen wearing blue jeans, a camouflage shirt and an HCDC vest.
Hardin County Jailer Danny Allen said inmates who are part of the work-release program are deemed low risk and approved by the Department of Corrections.
Townsend and another inmate were unloading furniture when they broke for lunch and Townsend was gone. Allen said bathrooms were checked and when he wasn’t located, he and the authorities were notified.
Townsend was sentenced Oct. 19, 2016, for criminal possession of a forged instrument and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Townsend, who had about 16 months left on his sentence, according to Allen, will be charged with second-degree escape when captured and faces one to five years, if convicted, on the charge.
Anyone with any information should contact Kentucky State Police at 270-766-5078.
