Officials with the Southeastern Cave Conservancy Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to cave conservation, announced their purchase of the Daleo entrance to the Roppel section of Mammoth Cave.
The Daleo entrance is one of seven that is not located within the boundaries of Mammoth Cave National Park, and it is the only one owned by a conservancy.
The entrance is a significant portal into much of the cave system, and the purchase is important in the overall goal of protecting the unique resources of the longest cave on earth.
