A John Hardin High School English teacher has been charged with two counts of first-degree arson.
Over the weekend, a trash can inside Wicked Eyed Woman in downtown Elizabethtown was set on fire. Then, on the following day, a planter attached to the same building was ignited. People were in the building when both fires occurred.
Office John Thomas with the Elizabethtown Police Department said officers identified Brant Weiss as a suspect during their investigation.
When questioned, Weiss confessed to setting the fires. The police are not sure what his motive was. According to the arrest citation, alcohol was involved.
Weiss was arrested Monday and released on bond.
First-degree arson is a class A felony. He could face 20 to 50 years in prison if convicted.
Hardin County Schools district spokesman John Wright said Weiss is suspended with pay until the investigation is complete.
