The rest stop off I-65 South in Hart County reopened Friday at noon after after being closed more than a year. The facility shut down in January 2016 due to a fire.
Final touches to construction work will continue for the next few weeks, according to Chris Jessie with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. For Memorial Day weekend, the rest stop is open to the public at a limited capacity.
Jessie said restroom facilities will be open, there will be limited vending and the parking for the commercial community is available beginning this weekend.
Travelers and guests stopping by still need to be careful with construction work ongoing, but the facility is open.
AAA released estimates saying nearly 40 million Americans are expected to travel for Memorial Day weekend, which would be the highest number since 2005.
