Russell County authorities are working to piece together the story behind a fatal shooting.
Officials say they received a call from Travis Edwards who claimed that he had fired his gun at a man who broke into his home and also pointed a gun at him.
Deputies arrived to find the body of James Barger about 300 feet away from Edwards’ home apparently dying from the injury sustained from Edwards’ gunfire.
A turn of events happened soon after when further investigation led deputies to find a marijuana grow in Edwards’ home along with several pounds of pot already harvested.
Edwards and his girlfriend, Whitney Nevels, were arrested on drug charges.
Russell County officials are waiting for the results of an autopsy on Barger as their investigation continues.
