
Members of the Brandenburg City Council met during their regular monthly meeting on Monday (10/9) night.
The council set Trick or Treat hours for Tuesday, October 31 from 5 until 8 pm within the Brandenburg City Limits. Brandenburg Police are planning for extra patrols during the Halloween activities.
Public Works Director, T.J. Hughes reported that work on the campground is continuing and he hopes to have electric ready for inspection the week of October 16th. He stated that the maintenance department is flushing hydrants this month, and work has begun on the maintenance of the Christmas displays for Christmas By The River.
Mayor Ronne Joyner reported to the council that the sidewalk is now complete on Howard Drive from Old Ekron Road to the mobile home park. Four bids were received for the re-paving in Riverfront Park were reviewed by the Council. A motion was unanimously approved by the council to accept the lowest bid received by Flynn Brothers Construction.
In other business, the council discussed was the possibility of raising the current City’s insurance tax from five percent to eight to ten percent. The Council requested that they be given some numbers to review at the next meeting as to the increase this would generate in revenue. During the discussion, the possibility of implementing occupational tax, tourism tax, or a room tax should be looked into for consideration by the council.
Mayor Joyner mentioned that before the November meeting, GRW Engineering will be present for a Public Hearing regarding the discussion on the 501 C Facilities plan for the Sewer Plant.
The next regular monthly meeting of the Brandenburg City Council will be held on Monday, November 14 at 7 pm.
