The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at recreational areas on Veterans Day.
On November 11, at certain recreation areas operated by the US Army Corps Of Engineers, Louisville District, lakes in the Green River Basin and Carr Creek Lake, all in Kentucky, are participating include: Nolin River Lake, Bee Spring Barren River Lake, Glasgow Green River Lake, Campbellsville Rough River Lake, Falls of Rough Carr Creek Lake, Sassafras.
The fee waiver requires only verbal confirmation of service. The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. Other agencies that manage recreation areas on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to offer the waiver in the areas that they manage.
“To honor the nation’s veterans, we will continue our Veterans Day tradition of inviting veterans, active and reserve service members, and their families to visit one of the thousands of USACE recreation sites throughout the country, free of day use charges,” said Col. Christopher Beck, Louisville District commander. “We encourage people of all ages to get outdoors this Veterans Day and enjoy a day of fun and relaxation available at our recreation areas,” he said.
It’s estimated that 90 percent of the USACE-operated recreation areas are within 50 miles of metropolitan areas offering diverse outdoor activities for all ages close to home.
