An Elizabethtown man was arrested Wednesday (3/7) night and charged with attempted murder after police say he cut a man across the throat with a knife.
Elizabethtown Police Department said the incident happened around 10:40 pm Tuesday (3/6) at the Kentucky Cardinal Inn in the 600 block of East Dixie Ave. An adult male victim was found with a life-threatening laceration to his throat in a motel room, and he was flown to the University of Louisville.
Police located and arrested Derrick Butterworth, 21, on a charge of attempted murder. Police say Butterworth and the man became involved in an altercation and that Butterworth slashed the man with a knife across his throat and fled.
Butterworth was seen on motel surveillance video fleeing from the motel. A jacket that he was seen wearing also was located inside the motel room where the victim was found.
Another person in the room saw the altercation and called 911 for help. The 35 year-old victim remains hospitalized and in stable condition.
The investigation remains ongoing.
