Authorities disabled an apparent pipe bomb at a park in Ohio County.
The Owensboro Police Hazardous Devices Unit was summoned to assist the Beaver Dam Police Department after receiving a report of a pipe bomb in Oldham Park, in Beaver Dam. In response, police set up a perimeter, and when bomb technicians arrived, authorities concluded the device to be hazardous. The bomb was rendered safe using a “disruption tool,” according to media reports.
A pipe bomb is an improvised explosive device which uses a tightly sealed section of pipe filled with an explosive material. It can produce a large explosion due to the containment causing increased pressure, with the fragmentation of the pipe itself creating potentially lethal shrapnel.
The investigation is ongoing, no injuries were reported.
