The Brandenburg City Council worked through a half hour special called meeting Wednesday (5/30) to discuss and conduct the first reading of several ordinances.
The council heard and approved the first readings of ordinances which would amend the current fiscal year budget and the adoption of the 2018-19 fiscal budget. Next year’s city budget is just over $2.5 million for the city’s operations. Mayor Ronnie Joyner told the council that this was the first balanced budget proposal in three years. The new budget includes the possible purchase of a new city maintenance truck and the completion of the RV park downtown along the park. Mayor Joyner projects the RV Park could generate additional revenue for the city.
Council approved the first reading of a ordinance to increase the city’s water and sewer rates by two percent. The council will have to conduct a second reading of the ordinances along with the publication period before they will be law. The council tabled discussion and first readings on ordinances related to garbage rates and implementing a occupational tax within the city. The city council is scheduled to meet during the next regular meeting on Monday, June 11.
