One person died and several people were injured following a crash involving three vehicles, including a Greyhound bus, on Interstate 65 early Thursday morning.
The crash was reported in the southbound lanes of I-65 near mile marker 67, not far from Munfordville, at about 4:50 a.m. Thursday, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Kentucky State Police said a passenger vehicle, driven by 37 year-old Charles Cartwright of Louisville, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes at the time of the crash. The driver of that vehicle was killed.
The driver of the Greyhound bus was identified as 38-year-old Michael Whitefield of California. A tractor-trailer also was involved in the crash. It was being driven by 34-year-old Jamie Crescencio of New Mexico.
Police said Cartwright’s vehicle struck the other two vehicles “in a head-on manner.”
There were 37 passengers on the bus plus the driver. The driver and eight people on the bus reported injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Crescencio and his passenger was not injured.
The southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down down for over ten hour while crews worked to reconstruct the accident and clean the debris from the highway.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
