A Hodgenville teenager is facing seven felony charges after leading police in a reported stolen vehicle on a chase Tuesday night that started in Elizabethtown with speeds reaching in excess of 120 mph and ended on Joe Prather Highway when the car stopped running.
After he was arrested, 19 year-old Joseph Daugherty told Elizabethtown police officers after he taken methamphetamine, marijuana and other drugs and had taken a 2012 black Honda Civic in Hodgenville, according to an arrest citation.
A 15-year-old female was in the vehicle with Daugherty throughout the pursuit which started on North Mulberry Street.
During the pursuit, Daugherty “was crossing into oncoming traffic and endangering the general public,’’ according to the report. Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop at the intersection of Ring Road and Shepherdsville Road when Daugherty fled and drove in excess of 120 mph northbound of Shepherdsville Road.
The report said the vehicle was hitting construction barriers on the Joe Prather Highway, apparently on purpose, and nearly struck a Hardin County EMS ambulance. Police say he again was driving in excess of 120 mph.
He drove to Vine Grove and into Meade County before circling back onto eastbound Joe Prather Highway where the vehicle became disabled.
Daugherty is being held in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond in the Hardin County Detention Center. He will appear Tuesday in Hardin District Court.
He is charged with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, Class D felonies punishable by one to five years in prison on each charge, if convicted; receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more, a Class C felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison, if convicted, first offense driving under the influence of intoxicants and multiple traffic violations.
