A Brandenburg man allegedly intoxicated on a controlled substance was arrested after police say he attempted to steal two vehicles while running in and out of traffic in Elizabethtown Friday afternoon.
Elizabethtown Police arrested 24 year-old Franklin Doyle in the area of East Dixie Avenue and Gallery Place.
Witnesses and victims said a vehicle stopped to avoid hitting Doyle and he then entered the vehicle and attempted to grab the steering wheel, causing injuries to the driver.
Doyle then proceeded to lay down in the roadway creating a hazard, according to the citation.
Another vehicle stopped to avoid Doyle and he then also entered and grabbed the wheel and again the motorist was injured.
A police officer said he saw Doyle on the sidewalk in front of the Elizabethtown Fire Department station on East Dixie with three people attempting to get him under control.
In the citation, the officer said he told Doyle to stop and put his hands up. He put his hands in his pockets and ignored his instructions.
The officer said this action placed reasonable apprehension of imminent physical injury to the point where he fired his Taser to subdue Doyle.
According to the citation, Doyle had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, involuntary jerking of the body, sweating profusely and was manifestly under the influence of a controlled substance.
Doyle is being held at the Hardin County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond and awaiting a video arraignment Monday morning. He is being charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony punishable up to 20 years in prison.
