As the temperatures continue to rise, officials are warning residents about the dangers of leaving children or pets in hot cars.
Authorities say forgetting your child in the car is actually more common than you would think when parents have to switch who takes the children to the daycare. With many things on their minds, parents sometimes go into autopilot and just drive straight to work.
They say it only takes 10 minutes for your vehicle to reach 104 degrees on a 90 degree day and that is hot enough to actually kill a person.
It is not enough to crack the window since the breeze from outside will not be able to offset the heat from inside your car.
In addition to the heat, leaving your child in the car leaves them susceptible to accidents or even kidnapping.
While Kentucky does have a “Good Samaritan” statute, the authorities encourage the public to always call 911 in these situations for immediate help.
