
A Colorado man was arrested after nearly colliding head-on with a Tompkinsville police officer late Friday (12/31) night.
Sgt. Ricky Shirley was on routine patrol when a Subaru vehicle crossed the center line, nearly striking his patrol unit. Sgt. Shirley attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however the vehicle failed to stop. A vehicle pursuit ensued in which the vehicle continued north bound onto Center Point Road.
The driver, Edward Bonds from Colorado Springs, Colorado, later lost control, causing a single vehicle collision. Bonds then fled on foot into a nearby field. Sgt. Shirley began to render aid to a juvenile that was involved in the accident. The juvenile was treated and later released from the hospital with minor injuries
An extensive search was conducted in which Bonds was located in a nearby basement several hours later. Bonds had two outstanding full extradition warrants from the State of Colorado for Escape, Sex Offender Failed to Register, Theft-person and Harrassment-stalking and Flight to Avoid.
Bonds faces the following charges in Kentucky: Speeding 26 mph over speed limit; Fleeing or evading police, 1st (vehicle); Fleeing or evading police, 1st (foot); Reckless driving; No operators-moped license; Disregarding stop sign; Wanton endangerment-1st; Wanton endangerment-1st-police officer and Resisting arrest.
Several officers from the Tompkinsville Police Department, Monroe County Sheriffs Department and Kentucky State Police assisted in the apprehension of Bonds.
