A Radcliff man, previously charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants twice in the last five months, now has been charged with murder in an overnight crash that killed an Elizabethtown woman.
Tyrone Shaker Raehme, 22, was driving north in a southbound lane of U.S. 31W early Thursday morning when a 2004 Toyota he was driving struck another vehicle, according to an arrest citation.
Tonya Kelly, 21, died from injuries suffered in the crash that happened in front of Rural King in Radcliff.
Kelly was transported to University of Louisville Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Raehme initially was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, however, the charge was updated to murder after Kelly’s death. He is being held in the Hardin County Detention Center
According to court records, Raehme was arrested in April in Nelson County and charged with first offense DUI. He was administratively released, meaning he didn’t appear before a judge.
In June in Jefferson County, he again was charged with DUI and first-degree wanton endangerment and released on a $2,500 cash bond. As part of his bond stipulations, Raehme was ordered not to drive a vehicle.
He also was charged with first offense trafficking in a synthetic drug and driving without insurance. According to an arrest citation, he told Radcliff police that he had drank one beer.
Commonwealth Attorney Shane Young said he will present the case against Raehme on September 23 to a Hardin County grand jury.
