
An Owensboro man is facing charges after being hospitalized last month from injuries he suffered during an altercation with a Daviess County Deputy Sheriff.
Kentucky State Police have charged 39 year-old Gregory Embry with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer; Assault 2nd Degree and Burglary 1st Degree.
On September 23, Daviess County Deputy Sheriff Alex Cooms responded to a report of a man with a hammer breaking into homes in the 9000 block of US 60 West in Owensboro. After observing a frantic woman and a juvenile, who had been assaulted with a hammer, running from a house, Deputy Cooms went into the house and confronted Embry who was armed with a hammer. Embry attempted to attack Cooms with the hammer and Cooms discharged his service weapon striking Embry. Deputy Cooms was not injured.
Embry was taken to Owensboro Health for treatment.
Embry was lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro on Thursday, October 6.
The investigation in on-going by the Kentucky State Police.
