
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court worked through a full agenda during their regular meeting Tuesday (2/14) night.
After a half hour public session which included various topics from the Senior Citizens Center to private road maintenance, the court approved the hiring of Steve Powell as the new County Parks Director. Powell will train with outgoing Parks Director Dan Lancaster, who is retiring this summer. The court approved a resolution related to grant funds from House Bill 1, which will be used to purchase new election equipment. The court approved the acceptance of the access fees in the amount of $4,296.27 from the Meade County Sheriff for the calendar year of 2022. They also approved the Meade County Attorney audit report for the period July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. The audit was the first and found no discrepancies. Magistrates approved the contract program funds for the Emergency Management Agency.
In other business, magistrates heard and approved the second reading of of the Property Maintenance ordinance. After some discussion, the court unanimously approved the ordinance. They heard the second reading of the Code Enforcement Board ordinance, which prompted some discussion and resulted in a 4 to 2 vote with Magistrates Steve Wardrip and Trey Webb voting No. The court also voted to 4 to 2 in favor of establishing a three person Code Enforcement Board to review issues and complaints. Magistrates Wardrip and Webb voted “No” on the action. The court tabled the second reading of the Solid Waste Collection Ordinance to allow additional time to resolve contract issues between the county and Republic.
Magistrates approved a resolution from EMS to purchase a bronze plaque for EMS Station 3 in the amount of $2,870 and $4,421 for applications using American Rescue Plan Act funds. The court opened bids for a new 40 by 80 foot building at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center. Four bids were received and opened in the meeting with Greg Stull Construction offering the lowest bid of $98,006.
The court approved one resignation each at EMS and the Solid Waste and Recycling Center. They also terminated an employee after a 35 minute closed session. Magistrates approved the advertising of the positions to fill job vacancies.
