
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court met during their regular meeting Tuesday (4/11) night.
The lengthy agenda began with comments related to a rezoning request of property owned by Kosmos Quarry near Battletown. The comments questioned the pace of actions between the county planning and zoning commission and Fiscal Court. During the business session, the court heard and approved the accuracy of the map amendments for ten properties owned by Kosmos Cement. Magistrates voted 4 to 1 against the recommendation of the planning commission. Due to their vote, Fiscal Court will have to set a date to conduct their own hearing on the rezoning request.
In other business, magistrates pre-approved the payment of election fees for the May primary election for the Meade County Clerk. The court approved the reappointment of Lynn Biddle to the Battletown Fire Protection District. They also approved the County Extension District Board 2023-2024 Budget.
The court approved resolutions for the annual county road aid funds; use of American Rescue Plan Act funds in the amount of $7,171 for Solid Waste & Recycling; House Bill 1 County Clerk Election Equipment grant in the amount of $142,636.90; EMS Medicare Billing and Disposable Fees and to adopt the Lincoln Trail Area Development District 2022 Hazard and Mitigation Plan update.
Magistrates approved the hiring of Randall Wilson as the County Grant Writer and Vickie Spink as the County Financial Officer. The court approved to interview and hire an Administrative Assistant and to advertise for bid the positions of Information Technology Director, Building and Electrical Inspectors for Planning and Zoning.
Magistrates met during an hour forty minute closed session for the purpose to discuss personnel, purchase or selling or real property and negotiations between a public agency and a business entity concerning a proposal, if open discussions would jeopardize the project. Upon their return open discussion, the court voted to dismiss one employee due to violation of safety procedures and demote one employee due to circumstances impacting their work performance.
