
A 69 year-old Buffalo man is dead after his vehicle entered the water Monday at Green River Lake.
The Taylor County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Rodney Dale Lewis, who was on vacation when the incident occurred.
Campbellsville Fire and Rescue was dispatched at 5:44 p.m. to the lake on a report of a vehicle in the water with confirmed entrapment, according to a news release from the department.
After arriving on the scene 10 minutes later, a special operations diver performed a bound dive to locate the vehicle, which was approximated 50 feet from the shore and in 12 feet of water.
The diver was able to remove Lewis from the driver’s side door and brought him to shore at 6:02 p.m. where Campbellsville-Taylor County EMS administered advanced life support procedures.
Lewis was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital Emergency Room, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the release.
Special operations divers performed a secondary search of the vehicle then rigged it for removal for the wrecker service. No other civilians or emergency personnel were injured in the rescue.
The incident is under investigation by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife and the Taylor County Coroner’s Office.
Also assisting on the scene were Taylor County Fire Department, Taylor County Emergency Management, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kentucky State Police and Taylor County Sheriff’s Office.
