A man who police say refused to drop a knife was shot in the lobby of the Evansville Regional Airport early Saturday morning.
It happened just before 12:30 a.m., according to a news release from Indiana State Police. That is when officers from the Evansville Police Department and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, along with Indiana State Police, responded to the Evansville Regional Airport on a report of a male allegedly threatening airport personnel with a knife.
Officers arrived and found the man, armed with a knife, inside the lobby area of the airport, according to the news release. Officers negotiated with him for about 15 minutes before he aggressively moved toward the officers with the knife still in his hand.
That is when officers from the Evansville Police, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and one Indiana State Trooper fired their guns, striking the subject, according to the release.
Officers performed life-saving measures before an ambulance arrived and took the suspect to an Evansville Hospital.
The suspect’s name, condition, and possible charges have not yet been released.
No officers were injured during this incident.
