A man was charged early Monday morning with breaking into his girlfriend’s home on Lucky Debonair Drive in Hopkinsville, assaulting the two people in the residence, and stealing one of their belongings.
Police say 29-year-old Jayontez Poindexter pushed one of the homeowners into the wall as he forced himself inside the house. The victim says she sustained back pain from the fall. Poindexter then assaulted the other homeowner, strangling her by the throat and pushing her to the ground.
After he left the residence, one of the homeowners said Poindexter stole their cell phone and turned off its location services upon leaving.
Later that morning, Poindexter was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree strangulation, fourth-degree domestic violence minor injury assault, and fourth-degree minor injury assault.
One of the homeowners shares a child with Poindexter but there was no report of injury to the child.
