Early Saturday morning, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to Armes-Lively Road in Leitchfield for a violation of a Domestic Violence Protective Order.
The 40-year-old suspect, Henry Harris, was located very quickly using a Grayson County Sheriff Office drone equipped with FLIR, or thermal imaging camera.
He was found about 100 yards from the property lying in a ditch. As officers approached, a brief foot pursuit started with the suspect attempting to escape over a barbed wire fence.
Harris suffered injuries from the barbed wire fence and was taken to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Hospital for medical clearance.
He was then transported to Grayson County Detention Center where he faces charges of wanton endangerment of police officer 2nd degree, fleeing or evading police 1st degree, criminal mischief 3rd degree, possession of a controlled substance 1st degree (2nd offense), possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of domestic violence protective order.
Sheriff Norman Chaffins said the drone is a valuable tool and in this case it prevented a potentially violent domestic encounter by apprehending the perpetrator before he hurt someone.
