Firefighters responded to a garage fire in Okolona on Thursday morning but their run turned into a death investigation.
According to MetroSafe, the fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. in Lynnview, on Bluebird Avenue. That is in a neighborhood just off Preston Highway and Gilmore Lane.
Okolona Fire Major Jason Tobbe said fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the garage. They quickly extinguished the fire in a workshop inside the garage.
Unrelated to the fire, they discovered that a woman had died inside the house. Louisville Metro Police were called and they are conducting a death investigation.
A second person was taken to the hospital from the scene for an issue that Tobbe said was unrelated to the fire.
Both Fern Creek and Okolona Fire units responded.
