An Elkton man was arrested Tuesday as a result of an investigation into illegal trafficking of counterfeit fentanyl pills.
Anthony Johnson, 54, was charged with aggravated trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force and the Pennyrile Narcotics Drug Task Force along with the Russellville Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office executed a buy/bust operation where 255 suspected blue counterfeit fentanyl pills were seized from the vehicle belonging to Johnson, according to a release.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
Officials also said that fentanyl pills have been the cause of numerous overdose deaths in Logan and Simpson counties.
Johnson is being held in the Logan County Detention Center.
