
A suspect was arrested after a Campbellsville University student died after being found unresponsive in his dorm room on Saturday morning.
The victim was identified as 18-year-old Malachi Kilman. His cause of death hasn’t been determined yet.
A campus alert was sent out shortly after 4 p.m. stating the campus would be on lockdown because they believe the suspect could be in the area.
Everyone on campus and campus area residents were asked to secure residences and vehicles, and increase awareness of their surroundings.
In an update, officials said police obtained an arrest warrant for 21-year-old Charles Escalera for murder.
Shortly before 6 p.m., a campus alert was sent out stating that Escalera was arrested by police and the university was lifting the lockdown.
According to police, he was spotted by a local farmer in his barn and Kentucky State Police arrested him.
Campbellsville University is a private school in Campbellsville that has more than 12,000 students enrolled in classes.
The student counseling center on campus will be open and counselors are available for students. All campus events and sports were canceled for Saturday.
