A Bardstown man is facing multiple charges after police said he stole a truck and crashed into a Nelson County Schools bus Friday afternoon.
Around 3:30 p.m., Nelson County Dispatch received a call about a vehicle stolen at Murphy USA on East John Rowan Boulevard near Walmart in Bardstown. The vehicle, a 2002 tan Chevrolet Silverado, was last seen driving recklessly on Highway 245 (East John Rowan Boulevard) toward Bloomfield Road.
The stolen truck, driven by 29-year-old Richardo Gray III, passed patrolling Nelson County Sheriff Ramon Pineiroa on Caldwell Avenue, where the sheriff began to follow the truck in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.
The driver of the truck ignored the sheriff’s lights and sirens, and continued north on Louisville Road. The truck passed Cox’s Creek Elementary School, veered to the left, striking Nelson County Schools’ No. 912 bus.
The bus was carrying students, and no injuries were reported.
Gray, the driver of the truck, was transported to Flaget Hospital in Bardstown and then to the Nelson County jail where he is being held under a $50,000 cash bond.
