A Friday night altercation resulted in the arrest of a Crossville, Tennessee, man landing him in the Hardin County Detention Center.
Elizabethtown police responded to a call at the 400 Block of Diecks Drive just before 11 p.m. on what appeared to be a theft complaint of some kind, according to Elizabethtown Police Department Public Affairs Officer Chris Denham.
When the officer arrived and proceeded to the front door, he heard what sounded like an altercation taking place and someone inside pleading for help.
Joel Ray Hammack, 46, reportedly was strangling another adult male when the officer entered the residence.
Denham said Hammack was said to be non-compliant with the officer’s commands. Hammack released the other man and then assaulted the officer who discharged his Taser in order to restrain the suspect.
The officer suffered no injuries from the attack.
Hammack was taken into custody and charged with first-degree strangulation; third-degree assault on a police officer; resisting arrest and fourth-degree assault, minor injury.
Denham said the victim showed signs of minor bruising on his body.
The relationship between Hammack and the adult male victim is unknown.
Hammack was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center under a $10,000 cash bond.
