
An early morning crash near exit 25 on the Bluegrass Parkway left three horses dead and four others gravely injured.
Bardstown police said the crash happened around 4:49 a.m. Monday morning when a semi was headed east toward Lexington when the driver crossed over into the westbound lanes and crashed into the embankment of the overpass. Police said the driver was severely cut but should survive.
The trailer was carrying seven thoroughbreds. Three of them were killed and the other four were taken to an animal hospital with serious injuries. Bardstown Fire said the horses were being taken from Arkansas to Keeneland.
The three horses that died were estimated to be around a $450,000 loss.
