The Sloan’s Crossing Pond trail and picnic area at Mammoth Cave National Park is now open for public use.
The area has been closed since October 2023 for a rehabilitation project to the wooden boardwalk that circles the pond.
Work included installation of new decking material and the repair of existing overlook and seating areas.
The 0.4-mile boardwalk around Sloan’s Pond traverses around the edge of a marshy pond.
Wayside exhibits along the walkway interpret the pond’s unique environment where wildlife such as turtles, frogs, red-winged blackbirds, and various waterfowl are often viewed.
The boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and features an accessible picnic area.
