A Bowling Green woman has been charged in connection with the alleged abuse of seven children at First Baptist Childhood Development Center.
According the Bowling Green Police Department, Maranya Shobe was cited Friday to the Warren County District Court for 10 counts of third-degree criminal abuse.
Shobe is no longer employed at the daycare, according to police.
The investigation began after multiple parents responded to the daycare and observed their children being abused in a classroom. They apparently watched surveillance footage from the classroom, according to the citation.
Police obtained a subpoena for all video surveillance on the system at the daycare.
After reviewing footage spanning from January 5 to February 23, a detective noted several occasions where Shobe was allegedly seen carrying children across the room by one arm, with their feet off the ground
The Bowling Green Police said those actions placed the children at risk of serious injuries to their arms, shoulders and elbows.
There are also multiple incidents where Shobe approaches a child and appears to intentionally walk into them, striking the child with her leg or abdominal area, causing them to fall to the ground, according to the citation.
Police presented the Warren County Attorney’s Office with a flash drive containing all instances of suspected criminal actions. They decided there were 10 incidents that were criminal in nature.
Shobe is expected to appear in court May 9.
Bowling Green Police said their investigation into the daycare has concluded, adding no additional charges are expected to be filed against Shobe or other employees at the daycare.
