A Louisville man was in court Tuesday after he was charged with abusing his 3-week-old infant in March.
Steven Winters, 22, is facing a charge of criminal abuse against a victim under 12. He was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections on April 1, more than two weeks after doctors at Norton Children’s Hospital called the Louisville Metro Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit on March 11 to report a child that showed signs of abuse.
According to court documents, Winters brought the child to the hospital with “multiple bruises on his body,” including his eye, cheek, groin and genitalia. The child also had “a busted lip.”
After being read his rights, Winters told investigators he accidentally dropped the child on the floor, causing the facial injuries. He also used a doll to demonstrate how he struck the child’s bottom and groin area, when the child wouldn’t stop crying.
A not guilty plea was entered on Winters’ behalf during a court appearance on April 2, and the judge set a $75,000 full cash bond.
His next court appearance is scheduled for April 10.
