Attorneys overseeing the trial in the Crystal Rogers murder case have agreed to move the case out of Nelson County and a southwestern Kentucky county appears to be the top choice.
Last month, all three defendants in the case – Brooks Houck, Steven Lawson, and Joseph Lawson – appeared in Nelson Circuit Court to ask to have the trial moved out of Nelson County. Their argument, too many people in the area are familiar with the case and that could make finding a completely impartial jury difficult. That was an argument Special Prosecutor Shane Young agreed with.
Kevin Coleman, an attorney for Joseph Lawson, said both sides have settled on Christian County as the location for the trial.
The two sides to this case were supposed to meet to discuss the venue change on May 1, but court documents show the hearing has been canceled.
The court documents do state that Circuit Court Judge Charles Simms will travel to the intended location to see if the facilities there are adequate for a trial of this magnitude.
An official ruling on the trial venue will be made once Simms has completed his visit.
