A West Virginia man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Keith J. Kennedy-McLeod was charged in the death of 3-year-old Rasir Oliver.
Kennedy-McLeod was dating the boy’s mother. She said her son wasn’t injured when she left him in Kennedy-McLeod’s care.
In November of 2020, Jeffersontown police were called to an extended-stay hotel about a child with burns. Police found Rasir with burns all over his body and a traumatic brain injury, which a doctor said was an indication of shaken baby syndrome. He was taken to the hospital in a coma and died later that year.
Kennedy-McLeod is pleading guilty with an Alford plea, which means he still maintains his innocence and is only pleading guilty because he acknowledges the evidence against him is likely strong enough for a conviction.
Kennedy-McLeod is not eligible for parole until he serves 85% of his sentence, which would be in 8.5 years.
