Two men were taken to University of Louisville Hospital after a carjacking turned into a shooting in the St. Dennis neighborhood.
Louisville Metro police officers were called on Tuesday around 3 p.m. to the 4900 block of Saddlebrook Lane on multiple reports of a shooting. When the officers arrived, they found one man who had been shot in the neck, arm, back and face and another man who had been shot in the leg. Police said one of the victims had his car stolen.
The man shot in the neck was rushed to surgery. Police said both victims are expected to survive.
LMPD spokesperson Matt Sanders said a BOLO (be on the lookout) was sent out for the victim’s car. An officer spotted the vehicle near Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane and started to pursue it. The chase led officers to the 1400 block of Catalpa Street, where the car crashed. Nearby Maupin Elementary was put on a temporary lockdown.
Police said the suspects tried to escape after the crash by running until one of them was detained. It’s believed that one of the suspect got away.
One of the suspects was identified as 19 year-old Jaden Scott Hinds, of Louisville.
Louisville Metro police said Hinds was arrested for first-degree robbery, driving without a license, negligence in an accident, and having a stolen firearm. He was booked at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
The LMPD Robbery Unit is still investigating this case and anyone with information can call the police department’s anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or use the online LMPD Crime Tip Portal.
