A Jefferson County Public Schools officer was taken into custody after Louisville Metro police say he was drinking and had drugs in his government-issued vehicle at a McDonald’s in Louisville.
Christopher “Mike” Minniear, 51, was arrested on Monday on drug and alcohol charges at the McDonald’s on Bruce Avenue in the Auburndale neighborhood. Prior to his employment at Jefferson County Public Schools, Minniear was also police chief of the Audubon Park Police Department.
According to arrest documents, Louisville Metro Police officers were dispatched to the McDonald’s following several calls about Minniear consuming alcohol in the drive-thru line. Employees said he was passed out there for more than an hour.
When officers got to the McDonald’s, they found Minniear in his government-issued vehicle parked across several parking spots on Bruce Avenue. His duty gear was in the back seat of the car.
The documents state when police approached Minniear, he poured out a dark liquid from his driver’s side door. Officers believe it was alcohol, but when they questioned Minniear about it, he told them it was his own urine.
Minniear admitted to having one shot of alcohol earlier. When officers searched his vehicle, they found a large bottle of liquor underneath his passenger floorboard and an open container of Bud Light in his center console arm rest.
They also found several hydrocodone and Ambien pills hidden within a McDonald’s burger box. Minniear admitted they were non-prescription medication.
Officers performed multiple field sobriety tests on Minniear, including a breathalyzer test. He blew a .019.
Minniear was later arrested on five charges: possession of an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, tampering with physical evidence, possession of hydrocodone, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prescription drug outside of its proper container.
A spokesperson from Jefferson County Public Schools said he resigned from his position within the school district.
