Louisville Metro Police busted two men for stealing credit card data with a skimmer at a new gas station on the Outer Loop.
Police said the men had a skimmer, more than a dozen fraudulent credit cards and cash with them during the arrest.
An arrest report reveals the men, Alexuivus Toledo and Yordanis Lopez, set up a skimmer in at least one pump at the RaceTrac gas station at the Outer Loop on Air Commerce Drive.
Police said the men stole more than $1,000 from their victims and had more than a dozen forged credit cards which were used to steal money from real credit and debit cards.
Police said the stolen money was used to buy gas and other items. Authorities say there are ways to prevent this from happening to you.
Make sure the pump’s tape seal isn’t broken and there are no obvious scratches or strange marks. Use a credit card to limit your liability and use tap to pay if you can, which doesn’t rely on the magnetic information on the cards themselves.
Skimming costs consumers at least $1 billion a year. Cases have only increased in Kentucky over the last five years.
Both men are out of jail now, but are scheduled to be back in court in June.
