A man has died after three Louisville Metro police officers shot him in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood late Friday night.
Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Steve Healey said around 11 p.m. officers were called to 4700 block Crawford Avenue on the report of an armed man. When officers arrived, the suspect was found with a knife.
Healey said officers told the man to drop his weapon, but he refused and kept moving towards them. The officers used ‘less lethal’ methods to stop the suspect but failed.
Three officers then shot the man, but he still refused to let go of his knife. Police said the officers tried but couldn’t perform life-saving aid until they were eventually able to disarm him. The man was taken to UofL Hospital.
Louisville Metro Police said the man died from his injuries Sunday morning.
LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit is investigating. Body camera footage will be released within 10 days of the shooting.
