A middle school student in Louisville is facing charges after officials say the student brought a gun and other illicit items to school.
A Jefferson County Public Schools spokesperson said it happened Thursday morning at Highland Middle School on Norris Place. A letter sent to families said a search of a student’s locker first turned up a knife and a small amount of marijuana.
When security staff questioned the student, a gun fell down the student’s pant leg and onto the floor.
Security was immediately increased and Louisville Police and Jefferson County Public Schools Police were called to confiscate the weapon.
They cleared the building with a canine shortly after, but didn’t find anything else.
Jefferson County Public Schools Officials said while the gun was never displayed in a threatening manner, the student is facing charges from the Jefferson County Public Schools Police and will be disciplined in accordance with the student handbook.
