
A Nelson County man who assaulted and strangled a Kentucky State Police trooper after a vehicle pursuit has been arrested.
The assault took place after the Kentucky State Police trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop on Clarkstown Road in Nelson County just after midnight on June 7, according to a Kentucky State Police press release.
A vehicle pursuit ensued after the driver, later identified as 31-year-old Dustin M. Thompson of New Hope, did not pull over. The pursuit ended in Marion County after the road turned into a dead end.
Thompson then fled on foot, who was chased by the officer. After the officer caught up with Thompson, Thompson assaulted the officer and fled the area.
A search for Thompson was underway until he was located and arrested. He has been charged with first-degree strangulation, first-degree assault of a police officer, disarming a peace officer and theft by unlawful taking of a firearm.
The trooper has been treated and released from the hospital.
