A single-vehicle fire broke out at Buc-ee’s gas pumps in Smiths Grove Sunday afternoon.
According to Smiths Grove Chief of Police Jason Franks, the fire was contained to the inside of the car, injuring the owner’s dog, whose name was Itchy.
Franks said Itchy was treated on scene by first responders and was then transported to a local veterinary clinic but passed away there. He said two members of the volunteer fire department went “above and beyond” to try and save Itchy, spending time with the couple, and making arrangements for and paying out of pocket for him.
The fire was contained and the pumps were shut off for a short time as Smiths Grove Police Department and Fire Department were assisted on scene by Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
