Kentucky State Police responded to a single-vehicle fatal collision involving a pedestrian in Nelson County Monday night.
On July 8, at approximately 10:45 p.m. EDT, Kentucky State Police Post 4 received a call from Nelson County Dispatch requesting assistance in investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian near the 4,000 block of Louisville Road (US 150) just north of Bardstown.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 KIA Forte, operated by 19 year-old Langleigh Winters, of Bardstown, was traveling northbound on Louisville Road before striking a pedestrian she failed to observe walking in the northbound lane. The pedestrian was later identified as 23 year-old Matt Berry, of Bardstown.
Berry was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner’s Office. Winters reported no injuries to officials.
The affected portion of Louisville Road was shut down for several hours in order to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson County EMS and the Nelson County Coroner’s Office.
The collision remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
