This fall semester, Kentucky college campuses will see an influx of new technology in the form of artificial intelligence (AI).
Eastern Kentucky University faculty say they have spent the summer preparing for changes with AI.
Since last year, AI has begun making its way onto college campuses, and this fall, it is expected to be prevalent on EKU’s campus.
Lisa Blue, a faculty instructional specialist at EKU, said AI is a truly revolutionary technology that is going to impact every aspect of everyone’s lives that are interacting with it.
Some are concerned about students using AI too much, such as when writing papers.
Blue says she believes the positives with AI outweigh the negatives.
Blue said once faculty members become comfortable or proficient with the technology, it can significantly lighten their workload. She says communication and being open and honest about the issues is key.
Blue says the numbers will increase because, towards the end of the spring semester, three-fourths of students were using AI, but two-thirds of faculty were not using it.
