A man is facing multiple charges, including reckless homicide, in connection to a 2023 hit-and-run crash in Valley Station.
Louisville Metro Police said the crash took place on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, just before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Dixie Highway and West Orell Road.
Police believe a passenger vehicle traveling northbound on Dixie Highway was “driving erratically,” swerving across the lanes when the driver crossed over the median and hit a SUV traveling in the opposite direction.
Ronald Ables, the driver of the SUV, was ejected from his vehicle, according to police. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
Shawn Brooks, 34, was arrested Tuesday in connection to the fatal crash.
According to court documents, Brooks was driving a stolen car out of Hardinsburg and fled the scene on foot after the crash.
Blood collected from the vehicle identified Brooks. His charges include reckless homicide, receiving stolen property, leaving the scene of an accident and criminal mischief.
Brooks pleaded not guilty on Wednesday. He is being held in Louisville Metro Department of Corrections under a $50,000 cash bond.
