
A 16-year-old boy was killed Thursday after he was hit by a vehicle on Veterans Memorial Lane near Hickory Street in Bowling Green.
The Bowling Green Police Department responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures on the pedestrian, Talan West of Bowling Green.
BGPD Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward siad West was hit by an SUV traveling southbound on Veterans Memorial Lane.
An investigation revealed West was crossing Veterans Memorial Lane and dropped an item as he crossed. He ran back to retrieve the item and was hit by the SUV.
The SUV had only one occupant at the time of the crash, but police have not released the driver’s identity. They said they do not suspect impairment and no charges have been filed.
The section of Veterans Memorial Lane between Russellville Road and Tomblinson Way remained closed for several hours as authorities investigated the crash.
Leslie McCoy, Director of Communications for Bowling Green Independent School District, confirmed Friday afternoon West was a student at Bowling Green High School. He would have been a junior and was a part of the Class of 2026.
The investigation is ongoing.
