A Louisville man is facing murder and DUI charges after police said he hit a woman with his car before crashing head-on into a tree.
An arrest citation said 37-year-old Michael Dahl was driving east in the 7700 block of Outer Loop when the car went off the road and hit a woman. A witness told police that they saw Dahl drive away after hitting the woman.
It wasn’t long after that police said he crashed head-on into a tree in the 8300 block of Johnson School Road. Officers found Dahl slumped over inside the car.
Dahl was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital and is expected to survive. The citation said the crash involving the woman was caught on dash cam footage by the witness. The woman who was hit was taken to UofL Hospital in critical condition but later died.
Dahl told officers that he was depressed and had been drinking alcohol all day before getting behind the wheel. A toxicology report showed he had a blood alcohol content of .342.
Dahl appeared in court on Monday, where he pleaded not guilty. A judge set Dahl’s bond to $100,000 cash. He is being held in the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
