A Madisonville couple is accused of abusing their child over a span of several years.
Krystal and Aaron Day were booked into jail on child criminal abuse charges, according to the Madisonville Police Department.
Police say one of their children had been “grounded” for more than half her life.
They say the child could not leave her room and was forced to sit in a corner staring at the wall.
Wooden slats covered the window of the room.
Police say there were cameras pointed at the corner, and if she moved, she was denied meals. They say the child was visibly malnourished and underweight.
Police say the room only had a bed, no other furniture, decorations or toys.
They say the child was reluctant to speak to the authorities out of fear of being further punished.
Officers say a sibling told them the child had not taken part in family meals since 2019 and was not allowed to have contact with family members.
They say the child was only allowed to go to school, and a large piece of cardboard separated them from siblings while in the car.
One man living in the neighborhood who wanted to remain anonymous says his grandson used to play with the oldest son.
He says his grandson would hear stories about how the boys’ sister was always locked up, but they never believed it could be true.
If it were not for an employee with the Hopkins County school system contacting DSDS to tip them off, police said the abuse could have gone on even longer.
The children are currently being taken care of by other family members, according to police.
